Late one night, while taking a break from an arduous engineering problem set, Emmie Chang (Rice '02) and Josefa Marquez (Rice '02) started contemplating about what initially drove them to study electrical engineering. After some thought, they both realized that they had very little engineering background before college. With the desire to familiarize middle and high school age students with engineering and technology principles, Emmie and Josefa created Wonder-Space, a place to learn and experience technology in a fun and invigorating environment. In 2002, Leadership Rice, a Rice University program that encourages undergraduate students to explore their leadership and entrepreneurial potential, saw merit in our vision  and provided initial funding and support for Wonder-Space Computer Camps. Five years later, Wonder-Space is now a full-fledged educational learning center with computer camps, educational programs, and proprietary software technology!

Wonder-Space Computer Camp instructors are highly motivated, energetic college students attending prestigious universities such as RICE, MIT, Stanford, and UT.

Wonder-Space Camp instructors undergo a highly selective application process. They bring a combination of technical knowledge and individual personality to each course they teach. Most importantly, they know how it feels to be enthusiastic about computers and technology, and are able to effectively communicate their knowledge to Wonder-Space campers.

Wonder-Space instructors serve as excellent role models to our campers, motivating and encouraging students to explore their academic potential.
